Dr. Fried has been practicing in the North Lake County area for 40 years. He opened his private practice in Gurnee in 1979 and has been at his current location since 1984.
Dr. Fried specializes in small-incision cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation; refractive surgery, including excimer laser correction of nearsightedness and astigmatism; and Conductive Keratoplasty for presbyopia. Now a senior physician, he has decided to refer his patients who need surgery to the eminently qualified Kirk family. However, he still takes great pleasure in advising patients on their options for surgical procedures.
He enjoys practicing medical ophthalmology and is especially interested in evaluating and treating patients with symptoms of allergy and dry eyes.
Dr. Fried earned both his Ph.D. in physics and M.D. at the University of Miami in Florida. He completed his medical training in Chicago with a medical internship at Michael Reese Hospital and an ophthalmic residency at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary.
He has written numerous scientific/medical research papers on physics, medical instrumentation and clinical ophthalmology. Dr. Fried holds a patent on an ophthalmic surgical microscope. He has participated in numerous phase III clinical trials of medications reported to the FDA as part of the official determinations to get these pharmaceuticals approved for prescription use.
A board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Fried also is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He maintains memberships in the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society, American College of Eye Surgeons, American Medical Association, Lake County Medical Society and the Optical Society of America. In addition, he has served as a clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary and clinical assistant professor of surgery at Chicago Medical School.
