They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. If your eyes are vibrant and youthful, it can brighten your entire face. Unfortunately, the eye area is one of the first to show signs of aging. Drooping eyelids and puffy eye bags can make you look tired, worn-down, and older than you actually feel.
Here at Kirk Eye Center, we can help you not only to obtain your best vision, but also to look your best. We perform blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, for patients who want to rejuvenate their eyes. Call us at 708-397-8114 to schedule your consultation.
What Can A Blepharoplasty Accomplish?
There are two types of blepharoplasty, upper and lower. Upper eyelid surgery focuses on removing excess skin and shaping upper eyelids that have begun to droop. After an upper blepharoplasty, you can expect to have wider, brighter, more youthful looking eyes.
Lower eyelid surgery, on the other hand, focuses on removing large bags from underneath the eyes. As we age, the fat pads under our eyes slip forward, creating the well-known “puffy” eye look. Removing this fat pad creates a smoother, more awake appearance.
When Should You Have a Blepharoplasty?
Although blepharoplasty procedures are more common in men and women in their 40s and older, they can be performed on anyone who has significant drooping of the eyelids or bags under the eyes. You may be a good candidate if:
- You have excess drooping skin on the upper eyelids caused by age
- Your upper eyelids are drooping due to genetics
- You have “hooded” eyelids that you want to change
- You have large eye bags (not under eye circles) under your eyes
- You have significant wrinkles and sagging skin around the eyes
Keep in mind that a lower blepharoplasty does not correct dark circles. In addition, it is not a solution for the temporary bags you may get after staying up too late. Lower blepharoplasty is an option if you have permanent, significant bags under the eyes caused by misplaced fat pads.
